J.W. Westcott Co.

Established in 1874, the J.W. Westcott serves the Greats Lakes marine community providing everything from mail, postcards, books, candy, cigarettes and the occasional pizza delivery. In 1948, it became an official U.S. Postal Service mail boat, eventually earning the world's first floating postal zip code-48222.

Recently I had the opportunity to go along for a ride on this mail boat. Captain Norman Raymond and Sam were our guides for today's excursion. We visited two freighters: Federal Nakagawa and Ken Boothe Sr. Seeing these large vessels up close and some amazing Detroit skyline views were fantastic.

For the past three years, I have explored historical abandoned buildings and had access to rooftops for some amazing city views. This recent adventure easily fits in my top 2 favorites. I'm really hoping there will be a next time.
